2nd Day – Alabama Charge

This is getting old! Another so-so day of fish catching. Again, probably caught 50 or so, but only caught one about 4lbs. I found a great brush-pile out on a long point, and caught most of my limit there, but the one decent bite I got there ( about 4lbs), jumped off my carolina rig. It just hasn’t been my year! I caught my fish on a 1/2oz Omega jig and a dropshot. When we locked down, I pulled up on a spot and caught about 20, but only one helped my weight. These lakes are absolutely full of bass, I don’t think that I ever went more than 10min without having a bite. Now I’m off to Guntersville, where I caught 70lbs last year, and only finished 15th. Should be another fish fest. Go big or go home!

1st Day – Alabama Charge

I probably caught 50 or so, but just not the right size! Started out on my structure with a c-rig, a couple little ones, moved to some docks and quickly caught a limit on a drop-shot. Then moved to a creek where I caught real good ones on Tuesday, I caught another 10 or so, but only upgraded a couple. The last 2 hours, I ran docks with a d/s, and caught a couple of 3lbers. That was my day, since I locked up to Wilson lake, the locking time ate up over 2 hours. I know there are some good fish up there, so I’m going back tomorrow, and make a few changes. One good bite would put me right back in the race, I know I can get it on Wilson!

Day 3 – Practice for Alabama Charge

Fished a half-day today, and caught everything. Smallmouth, Spotted, Largemouth Bass, Catfish, Drum, Rock Bass and Bluegill, there is no shortage of fish in Pickwick! I caught 3lb lm, sm, and spots in the same places. It’s tempting to stay on Pickwick, but the biggest fish I’ve caught are in Wilson, so thats where I’m going. We are very lucky to be fishing such good lakes, and then next week we are going to Guntersville- the best lake! I rigged 15 Powell rods with everything from shakey-heads to swimbaits. A jig, carolina-rig, and dropshot will probably be my best bets, but a chatterbait and Rio Rico have also produced some nice fish. I’ve vowed to just fish to my best ability, and not worry about the outcome, wish me luck!!!

Day 2 – Practice for Alabama Charge

Windy! 25mph winds and scattered t-storms today in AL. Fishing was good though. Caught about 16lbs today, fishing both shallow and deep. I found a couple good areas today that have the kind of fish that could win. Being so far down in points, my only choice for the rest of the year is to fish to win. Fishing is so good here, you have to find some 3plus lbers. Tomorrow, I’m going to fish the famous tailraces at Wilson dam, looking for those big smallies.

Day 1 – Practice for Alabama Charge

Good! I caught fish today on everything I threw. Most were under 2lbs. I did catch a 4lb smallie on a shakey-head, but it was a fluke, most fish are just small ones. I fished Pickwick today, the wind blew and it was cold and cloudy all day. You could see fish spawning and I caught fish in 20 ft, so a lot of techniques could work. Tomorrow, I’m going up to Wilson Lake, see if they are any bigger there. supposed to blow and be cold again, I already miss my AZ weather!
