No fishing this weekend! Amy’s off to Illinois for a friends party, TJ and I are just hanging out. I sold my boat this week to Scooter Griffin of the Hook-up, enjoy that boat- it was a great running Ranger! I entered the Fish’nchips tourney in OK in two weeks, so I’ll be packing my gear for Grand Lake. I had better also watch some world series of poker, half your points in that tourney come from poker playing! I’m paired up with a fireman, Kelly Banks, who knows the lake well and has a Ranger we can use. Also have to make a decision on which circuit to fish next year- FLW or BASS. Both are heading in the right direction, so it’s a tough decision. Mercury Marine signing on with FLW really thickens the plot! I’ll let you know…

Roosevelt 10-16

Fished both the TBF and Monterrey tournaments this weekend with Superstar Tommy J! He won the previous weekend at Roosevelt, and was on a solid pattern. We committed to shallow fishing, with only a couple of forays out to the deep water that I love. Buzzbaits, chatterbaits, and topwater lures were the most productive, and the fishing was a lot better than last month’s FLW. We probably boated 30 fish and had 5 good ones that weighed 13.17lbs. One late dropshot fish added to 4 nice shallow fish, allowed us to finish 3rd in the TBF, and 2nd in the Seniors. Another great weekend to be out fishing in AZ, and both tourney were run well. The topwater bite is on at Roosie, again now’s the time to go.

ABA PLEASANT

What a great day in AZ! Lake Pleasant has been good latley, so our expectations were high. Started the day with skinny dippers and caught two good keepers. Then found a school, and must have missed 6 more nice ones on dippers and flukes. Started running banks with a vixen, and caught and lost a nice one. Moved out to deep water and caught two more on d/s and spoons to finish our limit. About noon went back to the bank and upgraded 3 more on vixens. Saw a huge school of lm, but never caught any of em. Ended the day with 11.17 and third place. Congrats to Matt and Mike on an outstanding bag. I’ll be guiding this week at Pleasant thru the Hook-up, If you want to see Pleasant at it’s best, now’s the time to go!

Day 2

Posted by John Murray | Other Tournaments | Saturday 2 October 2010 6:59 pm

About the same today! Small limit of 7lbs, but caught almost 10 keepers. We were fishing the back of Vegas wash, the best big fish area on Mead. We never saw a boat and caught many keepers, just no big ones. If I had it to do again, I’d do the same thing, winning fish are there, not sure why we didn’t catch them.

Day 1

Rain again! Another strange day of weather. We started in my favorite spot and only caught little ones. Made a run to a big fish area, and caught a limit in an hour! No big ones though, I thought we might get a bite or two there, but we caught 7 keepers. We were really ready to go out to our best practice area. We had 3 hours to fish it, and never caught anything but stripers and small bass. Ended up with our small limit of 7lbs. Not sure what to do tomorrow to catch bigger fish, we were in the best big fish area of the lake. Should be sunny tomorrow, and we’re in the last flight, so anything is possible!
