FLW – Everstart / Shasta Final

The second day, I caught a couple limits of keepers, but no good ones! I ended up in 27th place with 18.1lbs. My problem is that I love to fish deep, and was too stubborn to run the banks with an A-rig for big ones. I had found two huge schools of spots on deep breaks, 30- 60 ft deep. There were some 2.5 lbers in those schools, but unfortunately my co’s caught all of them! I was drop shotting robos and Wave Tiki-drops on those fish, and the tiki drops really caught the ones near the shad schools. Tommy J and I stayed at my friend, Jordan’s house, and were spoiled by great cooking from his wife, Kaela. Thanks guys!! I then stayed for the college tourney and drew the ASU team of Joey and Mark. It was a great day, and they caught almost two limits on jigs. I really enjoyed watching those guys attack a lake with no prefish- they did a great job! Overall, it was a great week, but I’m happy to be home to Amy and TJ. I’ll be heading to Vegas this weekend for the ISE show, so check it out if you’re in Vegas for Superbowl weekend

Had a great day on Shasta today, weighed 9-8 lbs and sit in 20th place. These spotted bass are so fun to catch, just my style 30-60 feet deep on dropshots! My co-angler, Tobey finished in 4th, so we had a fun day. Goin back out tomorrow and hoping for a big bite to move up….

Gettin’ ready

Well, it’s been a long 11 days as Amy left for a Ragnar race in Florida, and her sister Lynn’s baby shower in Illinois, but TJ and I made out alive! Amy’s back, and now I’m getting ready for the ISE show in Sacramento ( for River2Sea), and the FLW tournament at Shasta. Should be a fun week! If you are attending the ISE show on Saturday or Sunday, stop by and say hello at the River2Sea booth, they always have some great closeout deals. Then it’s off to Shasta for some spot fishing, love the deep water fishing, and just ordered a couple 712 Powell endurance spinning rods to catch ‘em! Looking forward to Cali, I always see a lot of old friends that I never get to see anymore fishing the East Coast.

Great finesse baits

Happy New Year!!! I’m really looking forward to 2012, and a better schedule for the BASS Elites. Since it’s winter, I’d like to turn you on to a couple great little drop shot baits. I’ve been using two little Wave plastics, the 3.5 tiki monkey and tiki dropper. The monkey is a great crawdad imitator, use the bruised orange swirl on a short leader and it’s a guarantee on a crawdad bite! The tiki dropper is like the old school reapers and are one of my favorite baits. I was using the watermelon/copper swirl all summer on smallies and they loved it! Wave has many great baits and colors, just click the link on my homepage and check them out. Another plus about Wave, they have the best scent on the plastic- almost good enough to snack on!!
