BASS Elite Series Tournaments

By that, I mean we have moved cross-country from AZ to TN and now live on the shores of Watts Bar  lake. I’ve lived  in AZ for all my 51 years, so I thought it might be hard to re-locate- far from the truth, I can’t believe I didn’t do it sooner!! Our town is just 2000 population, and about an hour to either Knoxville or Chattanooga, so big time difference from central Phoenix. TJ loves his new school, and Amy and I love the outdoor lifestyle. My commute to tournaments will be much shorter, with the longest drive this year being 13 hours! Looking forward to learning the lake lifestyle and wishing everyone a great...

Bassmaster Classic

We are here!!  Three days of practice are in the books, and we have now checked into the Birmingham Sheraton getting ready for the big show. Practice was tough- I caught 7 keepers in 3 days, but with Amy and TJ here with me- it’s been great! We kept the motorhome out at the lake and left the boat there, because it is an hour and forty-five minute drive each way. I’ll probably make that drive in the pm and stay in the motorhome so I can sleep an extra hour in the morning. Having a great time and it is a great way yo start our new 2014...

Bassmaster Opens

I’m heading to the last northern Bass Open on Oneida lake early tomorrow morning. I’ll fish that, and head back to Phoenix and the warmth! It is 41 deg here in Illinois, and there is frost on my boat, AZ here I come! Fished some local ponds yesterday with a local fisherman, Bill Miller had fun and caught quite a few nice ones. Gave the new smaller size River2Sea diver frog a workout, and it’s a great bait, it really acts like the frogs around these ponds. Now I’m off to get the truck serviced and cleaned for the long trip across the...

It sure is beautiful down here in south Florida- high’s about 80 everyday and the bass are biting! The chore will be to get some big bites as is always the case here in Florida. Topwater baits like the R2S Tango Prop and the new small whopper plopper have been on fire for numbers, but the big ones usually come flipping heavy cover. With 180 boats in this tournament, even a big lake like this will seem small. Should be a fun week, and a good tune-up for the BassMasters Classic in 10...

Legend Cup

Well, the Legend Cup at Pleasant was a fun , successful tournament and is now over! We had 31 boats, and great sponsors- Lucas Oil, Rigid Industries, Wright/McGill, R2S, Lucky Craft, Cabelas, Sportsmans and wave-away-Thank You!! Davis Hart and Bret Nagelhout won the cups-congrats! I committed a rookie mistake by not checking my power source for my borrowed boat an the second day, I had no troll motor early on and never caught em. Been waiting 3 months for my new motor- sure will be nice to finally get my new...

Fished the ABA on Apache with partner Steve M, in the cold rain! It is the best lake by far in central AZ. We caught 18.85lbs on crankbaits and bumbershoots and had two about 5lbs apiece. Won the tournament so soaking all day in the rain was FUN! Now it’s time to get ready for the Legend cup out at Pleasant- should be tough, but I like it that way.

Wow, weird and tough bite at Pleasant! Fished thursday with Brian B and had about 17lbs of bass, one of my best days on that lake ever. Went back Saturday, and caught 4 for just under 10lbs, and missed a few more. Lost the tourney by about.7lbs! Had all 4 on bumbershoots by 10am and had till 3:30 to catch one more. Hit all my key spots and never had another bite! Oh well, got 2nd and big fish, but learned a valuable lesson for the upcoming Legend...

It was a tough day out at Roosevelt, we caught about 7 keepers and finished 8th place. I want to thank Mike and Mary Brillhart for the use of their boat! This weekend, I will be off to Sacramento for the ISE show, working for R2S and speaking on the Tank, always fun! I am putting together the Legends Cup, here in Arizona, the first pro-am put on by the fishermen of Arizona. More details to...

Happy New Year!!

Had a great weekend on Apache, the bass are eating cranks and jerkbaits! Now it’s on to Roosevelt this weekend for the ABA, should be tough! I’m wishing everyone a great 2013!!!

Merry Christmas!!!

Had a great day at the Lucas tournament at Pleasant with Steve M, ended up 5th in a very rainy day tourney. Caught a good one on a R2S suspend88 then finished our limit deep, dropshotting. Just finished a R2S commercial at Saguaro, and now getting ready for Christmas, I know TJ is ready NOW! Hope everyone has a great holiday and safe travels!!!
