Day 1

Filed under: Other Tournaments — John Murray @ 5:41 pm

5 for 9.97lbs, I like my start! Caught my first limit by 8am on jigs, then started running new areas looking for better fish. Ended up with about 20keepers, but the best was only about 2lbs. Caught largies and smallies, it was a great day out in the wind! Gonna go for it tomorrow, try to catch a big bag to have a chance to win. Actually played it safe today, so as not to take myself out of it. 11.6lbs is leading, so it’s wide open to win. Go big or go home!!!

U S Open practice

Filed under: Other Tournaments — John Murray @ 12:37 pm

I prefished off and on for the last 4 days on Lake Mead. We had the Icast show, so thats why I’d spend the mornings on the lake, and head to the show about noon. Hot is an understatement for Mead, it was 119 at the docks at Callville on thursday! The nice thing is, that the fishing is good for Mead and you can catch ‘em many ways. Topwaters like Rico’s and spooks are the way to catch the big ones, and worms and jigs will catch your numbers. We have over a 115 boats, so it will be a great tourney. I really didn’t prefish any of the areas that I plan to fish, so it’s hard to tell how I will do, my first day is always my worst, so if I can do well tomorrow, I’ll feel great. Off to sponsor row now, I’ll report tomorrow!

JULY 7TH

Filed under: Miscellaneous — John Murray @ 1:39 pm

Decided last week to go to Temple Bar, and prefish Mead for a couple days. Driving in to Temple Bar is always exciting, seeing the lake, it feels like home. Lake was glass for the first couple hours, so I ran quite a bit to check water levels and grass beds, but fishing was tough. My plan was to sleep on the boat and cover as much water as possible. About 1pm, the wind started, 20-30mph out of the south. I had stopped at Echo Bay to get more ice, because it was about 107 deg!! Riding out into the Overton, it felt like a hair dryer. I decided to head back to Temple to fish out of the wind. I guess at age 45, my staying on the lake idea, wasn’t as cool as it was at age 25, so by 3pm, I loaded up and headed back to Phoenix! The sum total for the trip was about 8hrs in the truck, and 6hrs on the boat, and very few bites! I’ll head back up next week for a real practice after Icast. If any of you are attending Icast, I will be at the Lobina Lures booth, so stop by and say hi. After that we’ll have the US Open on Lake Mead. This will be the first Open back in July since 1996, I got 2nd that year and hope to improve on that this year. I’ll keep you posted…

Day 2 – AutoZone Sooner Run @ Fort Gibson Lake

Filed under: BASS Elite Series Tournaments — John Murray @ 7:21 pm

My final BASS entry for 2010! It’s been a quick and tough season for me. I started the season great day one at the Delta, and ended it well day 2 here. Today I had 15 plus, caught 15 keepers and even lost another over 5lbs! Everything worked today, jigs, cranks and worms, just real shallow 1 to 5ft deep. Tournament fishing is so humbling, when you see $10,000 just swim away. I want to thank all of you for reading my blogs, and I’ll do another for the US Open on lake Mead in July. Now, I’m heading home for fathers day with TJ and Amy! I will be working on new sponsorship for next year, so if any of you have any ideas or contacts for sponsors, it would be GREATLY appreciated!! That’s it for now, but check back for Lake Mead details.

Day 1 – AutoZone Sooner Run @ Fort Gibson Lake

3 bass for 8lbs! Not really sure what happened to my practice areas, but it was windy and those fish never bit. Still had a chance for a good bag, had one almost 6lbs jump off right at the boat, and lost quite a few others that I never saw. Just another poor day in a poor year, trying to get it all out of my system, so I can get back to catching them!
